This acknowledgement is saved with your order. It does not replace advice from a dental professional.

NZ$40 for the impression kit, including delivery within New Zealand. The finished custom mouthguard is purchased separately; the kit payment is not credited toward it. Standard mouthguards start at NZ$195, with design options priced at checkout.

The Customs Kit lets you take a dental impression at home using the included instructions. Prefer Tayla to make an impression in person, or already have one? Send an enquiry and we’ll confirm the next step and any applicable fee before you book or order.

How the kit works

  1. Order your kit: we send it to you with NZ postage included.
  2. Take your impression: follow the instructions included in the kit.
  3. Return it: follow the return instructions so we can review the impression and confirm the next step.

An existing impression may be usable after review. Group visits and gym kit stocking enquiries are also welcome through the options form.

Self-Impression Kit Disclosure and Customer Acknowledgement

This product includes a self-impression kit used to create your individually made custom mouthguard. Please read the following information carefully before ordering.

No clinical assessment

By selecting the self-impression option, you acknowledge that:

  • You will take your own dental impression using the supplied kit and instructions.
  • No in-person oral examination or clinical assessment will be performed before your mouthguard is manufactured.
  • Customs by Tayla cannot confirm the health of your teeth, gums, restorations or dental work through the self-impression process.
  • The mouthguard will be manufactured using the impression you return.

When not to use a self-impression kit

Do not use the kit without first seeking professional dental advice if you have:

  • Braces, aligners or fixed orthodontic appliances
  • Loose, erupting or significantly mobile teeth
  • Dental pain, swelling, infection or recent dental trauma
  • Recent extractions, crowns, fillings or other treatment that may affect the fit
  • Significant gagging, swallowing or breathing difficulties
  • Any condition that may make taking an impression unsafe

Self-impression risks and limitations

Taking your own impression may involve gagging, discomfort, soft-tissue irritation, damage to vulnerable teeth or dental work, or difficulty removing the impression.

Stop immediately if you experience breathing difficulty, swallowing difficulty, significant pain or any other concerning symptoms.

An impression that is incomplete, distorted or inaccurate may be unsuitable for manufacturing or may result in a mouthguard that does not fit correctly. Customs by Tayla will inspect every returned impression and may require a replacement impression before manufacturing begins.

Mouthguard fit and protection

Do not use the finished mouthguard if it:

  • Causes pain or significant discomfort
  • Feels loose or unstable
  • Has sharp or rough edges
  • Interferes with breathing or swallowing
  • Does not remain securely in place

Contact Customs by Tayla before using the mouthguard if you have any concerns about its fit.

A custom mouthguard may reduce the risk and severity of some dental and oral injuries, but no mouthguard can guarantee protection against all injuries or prevent concussion.

Customer responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Read and follow all supplied instructions
  • Provide complete and accurate information
  • Check that the kit is suitable for you before use
  • Return the impression in the supplied protective packaging
  • Contact Customs by Tayla if you have questions or experience difficulty
  • Seek professional dental or medical assistance when required

Customers under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian place the order, supervise the impression process and provide consent.

Remakes and refunds

If your impression cannot be used, you will be contacted before manufacturing begins. Any replacement-kit costs will be handled in accordance with the Remake and Refund Policy.

Mouthguards are individually manufactured and cannot be resold. Change-of-mind returns are therefore unavailable once manufacturing has begun. This does not affect your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act or any other applicable law.
